Heikki Hietanen
HEIKKI HIETANEN

Heikki Hietanen was born on 7 July 1959. He was elected on the IIHF Council in 2021.
Hietanen’s work in ice hockey dates back to 1996 when he became an Executive Committee Member of Finland’s top league, Liiga, for 13 years. From 2001 to 2009 he was the General Secretary of the Finnish Ice Hockey Association. He was also in the organizing committees of the 2012 and 2013 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championships, of the 1998 and 2004 IIHF World Junior Championships, the 2007 IIHF Ice Hockey U18 World Championship and is a board member of the Finnish Hocky Hall of Fame and the Sport Institute of Finland of which he was the CEO from 2011 and 2018. He served for many years as CEO/GM (1996-2001) and as President (2009-2014) of HPK Hameenlinna.
He was heading the Finnish ice hockey delegation at three Olympic Winter Games (2002, 2006, 2010).
Hietanen has been working as General Secretary of the 2022 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship organizing committee in Tampere and Helsinki since 2019.
Hietanen has served at various IIHF committees with the IIHF Marketing Ad-Hoc Group (2002), IIHF Evaluation Committee (2003-2008), IIHF Competition Committee (2008-2012) and IIHF Player Safety Committee (since 2016).
