AIVAZ OMORKANOV
(KGZ) - VICE PRESIDENT
Born in 1996 in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, Aivaz Omorkanov became the youngest Vice-President in the history of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) for the Asia and Oceania region in 2021, at just 25 years old.
Before joining the IIHF Council, Omorkanov worked closely with the Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan, focusing on attracting foreign investments to the country. He holds degrees in International Economics and Trade from Beijing University of International Business and Economics, Law from Kyrgyz National University, and a Master’s in International Relations from the Diplomatic Academy of Kyrgyzstan.
A former ice hockey athlete, Omorkanov later served as General Secretary and International Relations Manager for the Ice Hockey Federation of the Kyrgyz Republic, where he played a key role in modernizing and expanding the organization. His leadership in ice hockey development has been recognized both nationally and internationally, including receiving honors from the President and Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan, as well as the prestigious "Order of Friendship" from the President of Mongolia.
Since June 2024, Omorkanov has also served as the Honorary Consul of Slovenia in Kyrgyzstan. Beyond sports, he is a businessman, a commercial real estate developer, and a leader in renewable energy projects.
As a triathlete and Ironman competitor, Omorkanov exemplifies discipline and resilience, qualities he brings to both his professional and personal life. Fluent in English, Chinese, Russian, and Kyrgyz.
