Comments: 24 players including goaltenders participated in the first match-up of the Global Girls’ Game in Dunedin in the south of New Zealand. There were a couple of new faces as girls and women from different divisions, grades and age groups were selected for the teams and came together for the love of the game. It didn’t take long for the nerves to shake off some of the rookies and the more experienced players helped them to find their place on the ice and it was 1-1 after the first period. During the second period Team White pulled ahead by one goal, only after peppering team Blue’s young goalie with more than 20 shots in just two periods. The final score was 4-1 to Team White. Both teams were full of big smiles and a great time was had by all. Best of luck from New Zealand to all the ladies in the #GirlsGlobalGame! |

Comments: One year ago Lithuania for the first time formed a women’s team. Since there were not enough players, it played against a club team from neighbouring country Latvia. This time the Lithuanians had 34 female players on their own for an all-Lithuanian Blue vs. White game. Everybody was happy as one can see in this video after the game even though it was a whopping 12-4 win for Team Blue. But the real message is that the interest of girls and women in playing hockey is growing in Lithuania hoping that one day there will be a national women’s hockey championship. |

Comments: Canada’s Global Girls’ Game, and the 2017 #GlobalGirlsGame finale, was held in Toronto and included players from all corners of the country. Two teams were made from girls of Bantam age that made 40 new friends this weekend. The opening ceremonies for the event saw each player bring a flag from each country that participated to the ice and shared the score of the Global Game throughout. Team Blue finished with a 3-1 victory over Team White, closing out a total global score of 135-128, a fantastic effort from both the Blues and Whites, who helped to spread the girl’s game to new horizons. As we close out the 38th period of this game around the world it has been a pleasure watch all of the other games come together and our teammates succeed all around the globe. It’s amazing to unite these females with this great initiative to celebrate our game and its growth. |
