The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) is the governing body of international ice hockey. The IIHF features 83 member associations, each of which is the national governing body of the sport in its nation. Besides controlling the international rulebook, processing international player transfers, and dictating officiating guidelines, the IIHF runs numerous development programs designed to bring hockey to a broader population. From its headquarters in Zurich, the IIHF organizes in cooperation with its 32 staff members more than 30 international tournaments and competitions annually.

In order to lead our Sport Department and to complete our Directors Group, we are looking for a dedicated and passionate:
Sport Director (f/m/d)
Reporting to the General Secretary / CEO and being a member of the Directors Group, this role is an exciting opportunity for an experienced sports / ice hockey specialist to make a contribution to the overall IIHF strategy, ice hockey and IIHF operations. As Sport Director, you will have in-depth sports / ice hockey experience and a passion for ice hockey. You will work closely with IIHF Member National Associations, Organizing Committees of tournaments, other Directors, and internal departments.The IIHF would like this position to start as soon as possible.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the Sport Department and work with the General Secretary and other Directors to develop and execute an overall IIHF strategy to reach the strategic initiatives, especially related to sports
- Prepare and control respective budgets
- Initiate and manage the necessary regulations associated to the operation of IIHF competitions for the ease and efficiency of operation
- Manage the organisation, structure and operation of the sport technical components of all IIHF Championships, Olympic Games, and Youth Olympic Games
- Represent the IIHF at the technical level with IIHF Championships, Olympic Games, and Youth Olympic Games
- Work closely with other departments especially related to the sports and to the IIHF Events (Development, Event, Marketing & Communications, Technology)
Secondary Responsibilities
- Prepare and document the meetings and material connected to the meetings on various levels and sizes
- Attend at site visits and conference calls for the preparation of the IIHF Championships, Olympic Games, and Youth Olympic Games
- Attend and serve as a resource at IIHF Council and Committee Meetings
- Attend and serve as a resource at selected hockey related seminars
- Support the department staff in assigned project works if necessary
- Perform other duties as assigned by the General Secretary
Skills and Qualifications
- University degree or similar
- Minimum 10 years of successful career in a leading sports role in an international sports / ice hockey environment
- Fluent English speaking / writing ability
- Other languages also advantageous
- Excellent social and communicational skills
- Ability to plan and execute multiple tasks in an accurate, efficient and reliable way
- Ability to work under pressure in an event and team-oriented environment
- Proficiency in full Microsoft Office suite
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as necessary, expected to be reachable if needed at various times for specific topics
- International travel required – participation at Top Division events and various meetings and seminars
