The Hong Kong Ice Hockey Association has withdrawn its teams from the 2022 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship program for this spring.

After having previously withdrawn the men’s senior team from the 2022 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship Division III Group B in South Africa for later this month, the Hong Kong, China teams in the women’s senior and men’s U18 categories won’t play this season either.

Due to rising Covid-19 numbers in Hong Kong, the measures have become stricter and the ice rinks were closed. Furthermore travel concerns were cited including a 14-day hotel quarantine when returning to Hong Kong.

Hong Kong, China was entered in the 2022 IIHF Ice Hockey Women’s World Championship Division II Group B in Sofia, Bulgaria, and in the 2022 IIHF Ice Hockey U18 World Championship Division III Group B in Sarajevo, Bosnia & Herzegovina. The implication of the withdrawal will be discussed with the hosts and participating teams.
