The IIHF Championship Disciplinary Panel for the 2025 IIHF Ice Hockey U20 World Championship Division II Group A has issued a warning against Romania’s Istvan Suveg for a kicking incident involving Lithuania’s Jegor Sobolev.
The incident occurred at 52:32 in the third period of Game #8 between Lithuania and Romania. As this matter involves a violation of IIHF Official Playing Rule 49 (Kicking), the Panel has jurisdiction over the matter.
The Disciplinary Panel determined that the player, while attempting to get away from an opponent who was on the ice and holding his leg, tried to kick at the opponent’s stick, rather than intentionally at the opponent. The player’s actions constitute a violation of Official Playing Rule 49 (Kicking), but do not rise to the level requiring a suspension. Therefore, he shall be sanctioned with a:
WARNING.
The Panel stressed that an extremely dangerous situation is created when a player lifts his skate off the ice for any reason.
