Objective: Focus on the technique and power of backwards stride with resistance 

Points of emphasis: 
  • Fasten a tire with a rope around the hip of the player for resistance 
  • Stay low with deep knee bent for the entire exercise 
  • Perform powerful skating strides backward by full extension of the leg 
  • Always keep the skates in contact with the ice  
  • Keep the head and chest up 


  • Move the arms rhythmically 
  • Hold the stick in the dominant hand 
  • Maximize the drive and power of each stride going backwards 
  • Move in a straight line backwards
