THE GLOBE ARENA
With a capacity of 13 516 spectators the Globe Arena is used for high profile sport and music events. Last time the Ice Hockey World Championship was held in Sweden in 2013 the Globe Arena was the venue, and it’s also known to host concerts with globally known artists like U2, Lady Gaga, Bob Dylan and many more. And in 2021 the Globe Arena was renamed in honor to the late Swedish DJ Avicii.
The diameter of the building is 100 meters, and the inner height is 85 meters. Until July 2023 it was the biggest spherical building in the world (the biggest is now The Sphere in Las Vegas).
IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship were hosted here in 1989 (opening the Globe), 1995, 2012, 2013
The Globe will be closed for a year before reopening in January 2025, during which time it will undergo a complete modernization and renovation.
