The 2024 IIHF Championship Disciplinary Panel for the 2024 IIHF Ice Hockey U20 World Championship Division II B has issued a one game suspension to Team Iceland’s Birkir Einisson for violating IIHF Official Playing Rule 48.  

The incident occurred at 24:16 in the 2nd period of Game number 9 between Serbia and Iceland.  

The Championship Disciplinary Panel determined that, while the Player had the right to make a hit on Iceland’s player, because he elevates his body making direct contact with the head and neck area of Iceland’s player, he violated IIHF Official Player Rule 48 (Checking to the Head or Neck). The Player could have easily made a legal body check by staying low, aiming for the numbers on the arm and making contact with the shoulder or body of Iceland’s player.  

Due to the suspension, the Player will miss today’s game between Iceland and Belgium.
