Finland will host the 2022 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship from 13–29 May 2022. Finland’s ninth Ice Hockey World Championship will take place in Tampere and Helsinki. The patron for the 2022 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship is the president of Finland, Sauli Niinistö.
The organizing committee is currently a little ahead in the World Championship arrangements. Agreements have been concluded for cities, arenas and several operational partners.
”We have set the bar high in everything we do, and the conditions for the games will be top notch. We want to make an event that Finns can be proud of,” says Heikki Hietanen, the General Secretary of the 2022 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship.
The search for volunteers for the event will also begin this spring.
”We are looking for well over a thousand volunteers for various organizational tasks in Tampere and Helsinki. Volunteers can experience the atmosphere of the Ice Hockey World Championship from the very front and gain experience in organizing a major international event,” Hietanen promises.
Values are reflected in everything we do, inspiration for the theme is the northern lights
The values of the 2022 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship are sustainability, fun and community.
”Values are reflected in everything we do. We want to organize a fun event for ice hockey fans that will lift the mood after harder times. Sustainability is systematically implemented: for example, the location of the arenas allows the smooth use of public transport. Train connections operate from all over Finland and it is only 1.5 hours by train from host city to another,” says Hietanen.
The theme of the 2022 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship is Making Miracles. The theme aims to bring out various wonders related to hockey and communities.
”Players perform wonders on ice like winning World Championships and doing high wrap goals and are thus role models for young future athletes and sport enthusiasts. At the same time we want to highlight small miracles that are performed, for example in children's hobbies or for example in volunteering at the Ice Hockey World Championship,” says Hietanen.
The theme and logo have been inspired by the movement and pace characteristic of hockey, as well as Finnish nature and northern lights.
