The design competition for the prize medals of the 2022 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship is open now. The competition is an international competition open for all. 

The 2022 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship will be held in Tampere and Helsinki on 13–29 May 2022. The three top teams will receive gold, silver and bronze medals, respectively. 

The competition entries must be suitable for gold, silver and bronze medals. The design of the pictorial subject must thus be identical on all three medals.

Competition rules

Participants

The competition is open for all and international. The number of submissions is limited to two entries per participant. 

Technical information on the medal

The medals will be made of the brass alloy MS90; the gold and silver medals will be gold and silver plated, respectively. The manufacturer of the medals will be commissioned by Suomen Moneta. 

The diameter of the medal is 80–100 millimetres, the height no less than 7 millimetres. Due to the height of the medal, the pictorial subject may be designed as a bas-relief.

The manufacturing method of the medals is pressing and the place of ribbon must be included on the design works.

Details of the medal

The prize medal consists of two sides (obverse and reverse) The design of the pictorial subject on the gold, silver and bronze medals is identical. Below is a list of mandatory elements that must be included in the design.

The logotype of the International Ice Hockey Federation, IIHF

The pictorial subject may contain references to e.g. ice hockey, the host country (Finland), the host cities (Tampere and Helsinki), and/or the brand identity of the World Championships featuring speed and motion, and the aurora seen in Northern skies. The brand identity of the World Championships is attached to this invitation.

The suspension ribbon of the medal complies with the identity of the Championships, and will be provided by the arrangers. 

Competition entry

The competition entry must be provided as a vector image in life size, 1:1. It must include carefully finished separate images of the averse and of the reverse. The submission must also contain an image of the entry in .jpg or .png format.

Competition entries must be sent by e-mail.

Prize

The prize sum of the design competition is 3,000 Euro, and it will be awarded in its entirety to one winner. The prize sum is considered taxable income.

Any other use of the competition entries is subject to separate negotiation.

Competition period

The competition will end on 31 March 2021. Entries submitted after that date will not be considered. Competition entries must be sent by e-mail.

Publication of the results

The results of the competition will be published on 13 May 2021, exactly one year before the Championship is to commence. The winner of the design competition will be informed in person.
