The 2024 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship IA Disciplinary Panel has issued two disciplinary decisions regarding the game opposing Hungary to Korea: a two (2) games suspension to Korea’s Park Jin Kyu (#63) for violating Official Playing Rule 48 and a suspension for one (1) game against Hungary’s Sofron Istvan (#20) for violation of Official Playing Rule 50.
The two incidents occurred in the game between Hungary and Korea on 30.04.2024.
In the first incident, the Championship Disciplinary Panel determined that the opponent received a pass from his teammate and started making a play on the puck in the neutral zone along the wall. As the Player is skating from an East-West direction with speed and made a hit on the opponent that cut across the front of his body. In doing so, his left shoulder made the head of the opponent the primary point of contact on a hit where such head was avoidable.
Therefore, as the Player recklessly endangered his opponent, he violated Official Playing Rule 48 (Illegal Check to the Head or Neck) and shall be sanctioned as follows:
