The 2023 IIHF Women’s World Championship Disciplinary Panel has issued a one-game suspension to Petra Szamosfalvi for slew-footing Swedish player Paula Bergstrom in Game #10 between Sweden and Hungary.
The incident occurred at 43:13 in the third period. Szamosfalvi, while racing to get the puck against Swedish player Bergstrom, attempts to pass on her left side to gain possession of the puck to avoid an icing. Upon approaching the boards and traveling at a high rate of speed, Bergstrom attempts to stop, but is off balanced and is swept by Szamosfalvi’s right leg, resulting in an uncontrolled crash of both players into the boards at a high rate of speed.
The Disciplinary Panel determined that the player’s action constituted a slew-foot (Official Playing Rule 52) and is therefore sanctioned with a suspension of one game; namely Hungary's game versus Finland on 10 April.
