Tampere is in many respects the hometown of ice hockey. Ice hockey has a long history in the city. Actually, the first official ice hockey game in Finland was played in Tampere in 1928.

Two teams from Tampere are playing in the ice hockey league: Ilves and Tappara. They are both the most successful clubs in Finland and have won the Finnish championship several times.

The IIHF Ice Hockey World Championships have been held six times in Tampere so far, and the Finnish Ice Hockey Museum can also be found in Tampere, in the premises of the Museum Centre Vapriikki.

Tampere combines the urban landscape with lake nature, and one could enjoy both the bustle of the city and the calmer atmosphere in the nature.

The city is located within excellent transport connections and is a popular event city that can be reached even from longer distances.

Tampere is the third largest city in Finland. There are 240,000 inhabitants.
