The President of the Republic of Finland, Sauli Niinisto, has agreed to act as the patron of the 2023 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship.
”The president is known to be a fan of exercise and sports, and it is an honour to have him as a patron of an event whose values emphasize the great experiences that come from exercise. Whether it's pond hockey or the IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship, they both give us a sense of community and fun,” says Heikki Hietanen, General Secretary of the 2023 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship Organizing Committee.
The theme of the 2023 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship is "We live the game", and it highlights the emotions experienced both inside and outside the ice hockey rink. The values of the event are fun, community and sustainability.
President Niinisto also served as the patron of the 2022 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship, held in Finland.
