With the 2022 IIHF World Junior Championship set to kick off in Edmonton and Red Deer, Canada, later this month, Hockey Canada has announced three ticket packages that fans can purchase to secure their seat for the holiday hockey tradition.
“There is a tremendous amount of anticipation for the World Juniors to return to Edmonton and Red Deer after last year’s event without fans, and we are excited to launch three great ticket packages and allow fans to secure their seats to see the top under-20 players in the world,” said Riley Wiwchar, executive director of the 2022 IIHF World Junior Championship. “We look forward to welcoming fans back into the stands, and we encourage everyone to take advantage of these great packages and be a part of the World Juniors experience.”
Two eight-game ticket packages are available for Rogers Place in Edmonton and start as low as $495. Edmonton Half-Package A features one ticket for five preliminary-round games, including Team Canada’s New Year’s Eve match-up against Finland, as well as Team Canada’s quarterfinal and semifinal games (if qualified), and the bronze medal game. Edmonton Half-Package B also features five preliminary-round games, including Team Canada’s games against Austria on Dec. 28 and Germany on Dec. 29, as well as the first quarterfinal, first semifinal and gold medal game.
A 16-game ticket package for the Peavey Mart Centrium in Red Deer is also available starting as low as $560. It includes two Team Canada pre-tournament games and all 10 preliminary-round games featuring Russia, Slovakia, Sweden, Switzerland and the United States, as well as two relegation games and two quarterfinals.
As a result of the priority ticket draw that took place ahead of the 2021 IIHF World Junior Championship, a limited number of ticket packages are available for both venues. Fans can purchase their Edmonton and Red Deer packages at worldjuniors.hockey starting Friday, Dec. 3 at 10 a.m. MT/12 p.m. ET.
“The World Juniors is an annual holiday tradition in Canada, and we are thrilled to launch three ticket packages and provide fans with the opportunity to watch the event in-person in Canada for the first time since the 2019 tournament in Vancouver and Victoria,” said Dean McIntosh, vice-president of events and properties with Hockey Canada. “We know fans will embrace the opportunity to be a part of the World Juniors, and we look forward to hosting hockey fans in two great Alberta communities.”
The 2022 IIHF World Junior Championship will be played under an Exemption for Amateur Sport Hosting regarding vaccination and COVID-19 protocols while allowing fully-vaccinated ticket holders to attend in both communities.
The 2022 IIHF World Junior Championship is set to be the first IIHF event hosted by Hockey Canada that will feature fans since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. The 2021 IIHF World Junior Championship and 2021 IIHF Women’s World Championship were hosted in Edmonton and Calgary, respectively, and were played in a bubble environment without fans. Recent editions of the IIHF World Junior Championship hosted in Canada have brought significant economic impact to the host provinces, generating approximately $50 million in Canadian communities.
