Two players have been suspended by the ad-hoc Disciplinary Panel at the 2022 IIHF Ice Hockey U18 World Championship following incidents in Sunday’s game between Germany and Canada.
After nine seconds of play in the game German player Moritz Elias was assessed a match penalty for an illegal check to the head and neck area. The player recklessly endangered his opponent Josh Filmon by charging him coming out of the corner without any regards to the puck, and thereby violating Official Playing Rule 42. He was issued a one-game suspension namely today’s game of his team against the United States.
With 1:48 remaining in the second period Canadian player Spencer Sova was assessed a match penalty for an illegal check to the head and neck area. The player recklessly endangered his opponent Ralf Rollinger by crosschecking him in a vulnerable position lying on the ice, and thereby violating Official Playing Rule 59. He was issued a one-game suspension namely today’s game of his team against Czechia.
