With the end of the 2022 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship the May edition of the 2022 IIHF Men’s World Ranking has become known. Finland defended the top spot in the ranking.

The top-five remain in the same order as after the Olympics. Finland is followed by Canada, Russia, the United States and Sweden.
Bronze medallist Czechia overtook Switzerland for sixth place. Slovakia, Germany and Denmark complete the top-10 in the same order as three months ago followed by Latvia, Norway, France and Belarus.
Austria made the biggest move in the top-20 gaining two spots for 15th place at the expense of Kazakhstan and Italy. Great Britain, Slovenia and Hungary complete the top-20.
The ranking now includes a record number of 56 countries that have competed in the IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship program in recent years.
The World Ranking takes into consideration the results of the World Championships and Olympics of the past four years. Teams that could not participate this year received points in accordance with the 2022 IIHF Sport Regulations.
The next IIHF Women’s World Ranking will be published after the conclusion of the 2022 IIHF Ice Hockey Women’s World Championship.

Tentative groups for 2023
With the World Ranking the tentative groups for the 2023 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship in Tampere (Finland) and Riga (Latvia) have become known. More information about the next year’s Worlds including the game schedule and ticket information will become known during the upcoming months.
