The IIHF Disciplinary Panel has issued a one-game suspension against Slovak froward Marko Dano, for a violation of IIHF Playing Rule Official Playing Rule 61 – Slashing.

The violation occurred At 53:36 in the 3rd period of Slovakia’s preliminary round game against Finland on 10 February.

In an attempt to stop Finland forward Iiro Pakarinen from passing the puck along the boards in the Finland defensive zone, Dano checked Pakarinen resulting in Pakarinen hitting the boards and falling to the ice directly in front of Dano. After Pakarinen fell to the ice, Dano skated around Pakarinen, and swung his stick in the direction of Pakarinen as he passed, making contact with his face.

The Disciplinary Panel determined that because Dano was aware of where Pakarinen was on the ice as he skated around him, his action of swinging his stick in the direction of Pakarinen’s head, while not with a high degree of force, put Pakarinen in an extremely dangerous situation, and violated IIHF Official Player Rule 61 – Slashing.

The Disciplinary Panel determined that Dano will be sanctioned with a one-game suspension. He will miss Slovakia’s next preliminary round game against Sweden.
