After a unique IIHF World Junior Championship that started on Christmas Day in 2021, the 2022 edition of the World Juniors will get underway one day later, with four games highlighting the opening-day schedule.
Thirty-one games will be played at Rogers Place in Edmonton and the Peavey Mart Centrium in Red Deer from 26 December, 2021 to 5th January 2022.

The 10-team tournament features Canada in Group A with Austria, the Czech Republic, Finland and Germany in Edmonton, while Group B is comprised of Russia, Switzerland, Slovakia, Sweden and the United States in Red Deer.
The event kicks off with a marquee matchup as Russia faces Sweden in Red Deer, while Finland takes on Germany in Edmonton. The evening games will see hosts Canada play the Czech Republic and USA face off against Slovakia.
The 2022 IIHF World Junior Championship will be played under an Exemption for Amateur Sport Hosting regarding vaccination and COVID-19 protocols while allowing fully-vaccinated ticket holders to attend in both communities.
