Canada and Russia renew their World Junior rivalry in a pre-competition game on 23 December.
Due to the extended quarantine period for Sweden and Germany, the 2021 IIHF World Junior Championship Event Executive Committee has announced a revised tournament pre-competition game schedule.

The pre-competition phase will kick off on Tuesday, 22 December with Game 1 between Switzerland and Austria, followed by Finland vs USA.
Day 2 of the pre-competition schedule will see a couple of rivalry games as tournament host Canada faces off against Russia, and Slovakia takes on Czech Republic.
