20-year-old Swedish defenceman Nils Lundqvist won’t be able to play for the remainder of the 2021 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship due to injury.
“After the examinations today it is unfortunately became clear that Nils Lundkvist's injury makes more games at the World Championship impossible,” team doctor Jonas Kalman said in a statement of the Swedish Ice Hockey Association. “He will return home to Sweden for further examination to ensure the right treatment for his injury.”
Sweden had previously already lost forward Carl Klingberg due to injury but still has 25 active players on the tournament roster.
