As Nova Scotia prepares to welcome the top players in the world to Halifax and Truro for the 2020 IIHF Ice Hockey Women’s World Championship, Hockey Canada and Hockey Nova Scotia have announced that fans can take advantage of new five-game ticket package options.
“We are excited to reach another important step in our preparations towards welcoming the women’s worlds back to Nova Scotia with the launch of three new, affordable ticket options for fans,” said Grant MacDonald, general manager of the 2020 IIHF Ice Hockey Women’s World Championship. “We know there is a lot of excitement throughout the province as we look towards the start of the event at the end of March, and now fans have more options to experience this world-class event in Halifax and Truro.”
Two five-game ticket package options are available for the Scotiabank Centre in Halifax and start as low as $109 plus applicable fees. Mini-pack #1 includes five preliminary-round games from April 1-5, including Team Canada games against Switzerland and the United States. Mini-pack #2 includes five preliminary-round games from April 3-5, including Team Canada games against Switzerland and the United States, with all games falling on the weekend.
A five-game Truro ticket package is also available for purchase for $89 plus applicable fees. It includes Team Canada’s pre-tournament game at the Rath Eastlink Community Centre, two preliminary-round games in Truro, one Team Canada game against Switzerland in Halifax and the 5 p.m. quarter-final game on Tuesday, April 7 in Truro.
Fans can purchase their five-game ticket package starting Monday, Jan. 27 at 11 a.m. AT. Those looking to secure their seat for all games in either city can take advantage of a 17-game Halifax package starting at $299 plus fees, as well as a 16-game Truro package starting at $99 plus fees.
“The launch of new ticket packages is an exciting milestone for the 2020 IIHF Ice Hockey Women’s World Championship, as it gives fans in Nova Scotia and across Canada more variety in how they can experience the talent that will be on display in Halifax and Truro,” said Dean McIntosh, vice-president of events and properties with Hockey Canada. “With excitement continuing to build in Nova Scotia, we are thrilled to offer a number of flexible ticket options that will allow fans to watch Canada compete for a gold medal on home ice.”
Hockey Canada announced in October 2018 that the 2020 IIHF Women’s World Championship would be returning to the Province of Nova Scotia, with Halifax and Truro set to co-host the event from March 31-April 10. Strong support has Nova Scotia excited to host women’s worlds, with the province embracing the slogan It’s Our Time as it prepares to welcome the world.
Recent editions of the IIHF Women’s World Championship hosted in Canada have brought significant economic impact to the host provinces. British Columbia (2016) benefited from $7.4 million in economic impact throughout the province, with $6.2 million being generated in Kamloops alone. Ontario (2013) was even more successful, bringing in $14.3 million to the province, of which $8.8 million occurred in Ottawa. As with all IIHF events hosted in Canada, a legacy plan for the profits of the 2020 IIHF Women’s World Championship will support grassroots hockey initiatives across the province and throughout Hockey Canada’s 13 regional members.
