Ostravar Arena
The heart of ice hockey in Vitkovice and the centre of many sport and cultural events in the Ostrava region. That is Ostravar Arena, an unique arena named after a famous brewery, built in 1986, and renovated during the turn of 2003 and 2004. In the summer of 2018, its capacity was reduced from 12,500 seats to 10,004.
However, the arena did not lose any bit of its atmosphere, and thanks to its modern equipment, it can serve as a hosting place for the most demanding events. In 2004 and 2015, the arena hosted the IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship, European Figure Skating Championship last year, and so on.
In 1994, the IIHF World Junior Championship was played in the arena, and in 2020, the same event will take a place here as well. For many years, the arena is the home of HC Vitkovice Ridera, one of the most famous ice hockey clubs in the Czech Republic. A number of well-known players played for Vitkovice – Miroslav Frycer, Frantisek Cernik, Roman Simicek, David Moravec or Rostislav Olesz, who is currently playing for Vitkovice.
