Following the cancellation of the 2020 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship in Zurich and Lausanne, the Swiss Ice Hockey Federation has decided today not to apply to the International Ice Hockey Federation to move the event to 2021. Consequently, the IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship will not take place in Switzerland in 2021 either and ticket holders will receive a refund. The corresponding modalities will be communicated next week.

The main reason for the decision of the Swiss Ice Hockey Federation is the major economic risks that would arise if the tournament was to be rescheduled in 2021. The 2020 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship project in Zurich and Lausanne is therefore definitely over. The Organizing Committee under the leadership of General Secretary Gian Gilli will complete its work by the end of June.

The 2021 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship is scheduled for next year in Minsk (Belarus) and Riga (Latvia).

Nevertheless, the goal of Swiss Ice Hockey is to be able to hold a World Championship in Switzerland in the next few years. Swiss Ice Hockey will be discussing in the coming weeks when to register with the IIHF to host the World Championship in another year. As of today, the organization of the IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship has already been assigned until 2025.

Reimbursement for ticket buyers

All fans who bought tickets at the Organizing Committee or via the official ticket seller Ticketcorner will receive a refund. Ticket purchasers will be informed by e-mail next week (4-8 May 2020) about the further procedure regarding the refund process. Hospitality customers will be contacted directly by the Organizing Committee.
