The Finnish player Antti Tuomisto has received a one-game suspension for a kneeing incident in the second period of the game against Switzerland.
The tournament Disciplinary Panel reviewed the matter and made the following statement: “Based on the video clips and the reports of the Referee Supervisor and the Game Officials, the Disciplinary Panel Chairman ascertained the following facts. The incident in question occurred at 25:41 in the 2nd period of Game #18, FIN vs. SUI. SUI #23 [Yves Stoffel] made an offensive play against the Player [Tuomisto] and as SUI attempted to make a move around the Player finished his body check making contact with SUI #23 knee.”
The Disciplinary Panel provided this analysis: “Based on all facts ascertained, the Disciplinary Panel determined that because the Player made knee contact while trying to body check SUI#23, Player’s actions were extremely dangerous, creating a serious risk of injury to SUI #23, and violated IIHF Official Rule 152 (Kneeing).”
Therefore, Tuomisto is suspended for Finland's 15.30 quarter-final against the United States in Ornskoldsvik on Thursday.
