Goaltender Pavel Francouz and forward Radek Faksa are announced to join the Czech national team at the 2019 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship in Slovakia.
Francouz already arrived on Sunday morning and practised first time with the team. After several years at home and in Russia, Francouz just concluded his first season in North America with the organization of the Colorado Avalanche where he played two NHL games and 53 games for the AHL affiliate Colorado Eagles. It will be the sixth World Championship for the 28-year-old.
After registering Francouz, the Czechs still have roster spots open for three skaters. Jakub Kovar, who was practising as third goaltender with the team, won’t be registered and leave the team.
The Czech national team is also working on getting Dallas Stars forward Radek Faksa. Due to medical examinations and a shoulder issue his departure was delayed but according to the Czech Ice Hockey Association he will arrive on Monday and it was agreed with the Stars that he can play as of Thursday if everything turns out well.
The 25-year-old completed his fourth NHL season with the Stars. In 81 regular-season games the centre scored 15 goals and had 30 points.
