The IIHF Championship Disciplinary Panel for the 2025 IIHF Ice Hockey U20 World Championship Division I Group B has issued a one-game suspension to Ukraine’s Mykhailo Haponenko (#14) for making unnecessary contact with the lower back of his opponent while the latter was in a vulnerable position and distance from the boards.
The incident occurred in Game #8 between Ukraine and Italy on 14 January. It involved a violation of IIHF Official Playing Rule 41(Boarding), and accordingly, the Disciplinary Panel has jurisdiction over the matter. Haponenko is suspended for Game #11 between Ukraine and Korea on 16 January.
The objective of the Disciplinary Panel is to ensure player safety and the overall safety of the game.
