Kick-off of the competition is getting closer! With only 18 days left until the 2024 IIHF WM begins, representatives of the Prague Organizing Committee for the 2024 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship are recommending all fans to avoid driving to the arenas.

The unstoppable approach of the 2024 IIHF WM is confirmed by the fact that organizers are taking over the keys to the Prague Arena as early as of 26 April and the Prague Fan Guide is published. The Organizing Committee of the 2024 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship recommends to all fans not to travel to the arena areas by car. "We know it might be tempting but we encourage fans to use transports  and avoid driving to the games at all costs. In the best case scenario, you might miss the opening faceoff, but once you get stuck in traffic, or unable to find a parking spot  you would eventually be  deprived of the hockey experience," says Lenka Jiroutová, Director of Transportation Department of the 2024 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship.

One of the organizer’s priorities is to ensure smooth and seamless proceedings, thanks to the already announced collaboration with partners from the security forces. “Our officers will be responsible for public order, traffic regulation, and visitor safety in Prague,” says the District Director of the Police of Prague 3, Colonel Josefa Jelínková. Her words are followed by the Regional Director of the Fire Rescue Service of the Capital City of Prague, Brigadier General Lukáš Prudil: “The safety of spectators, participants, and everyone involved in the events is our main task. Thanks to rigorous training exercises, our teams are well-prepared for the 2024 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship.”

The provision of medical care will be ensured by the Medical Rescue Service of the Capital City of Prague. "Just like any other event of this scale, we will have our paramedic and medical teams directly on site. They will also have access to a brand-new mobile medical unit where we will be able to provide care services to a larger number of patients if needed,” says Petr Kolouch, Director of the Medical Rescue Service of the Capital City of Prague.

Car to the P+R parking lot, public transport to the ice hockey game

During the 2024 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship, significant traffic restrictions will be in place around the Prague Arena, with entry to most adjacent streets either partially or completely prohibited for automobiles. “If you are traveling by car, we urge you to primarily use the park-and-ride facilities (the list is available here) and continue your journey to the 2024 IIHF WM hockey venue via public transportation. Parking capacities around the arena will be significantly limited. Entry to the vicinity of the arena will also not be permitted for buses,” says Deputy Mayor of Prague 9, Adam Vážanský.

The simplest transportation option? Taking the metro.

On individual game days, during specific time periods, the operation of the metro on line B will be reinforced by introducing express service lines between Smíchovské nádraží and Českomoravská stations, taking into account the number of games on that day (2 or 3 games). “We would like to urge fans to prioritize the use of public transportation, especially the metro, for transportation to the Prague Arena,” says Head of Transportation Department, Lenka Jiroutová. The closest station to the venue is Metro B – Českomoravská. Additionally, on the day of the gold medal game on 26 May, the operation of all lines will be extended until 1:00 AM in the morning.

Alternatives in the form of trams, trains, or buses.

Organizers also recommend using tram services to Arena Libeň jih station (daytime - 7, 8; night time - 92) or to Divadlo Gong station (daytime - 12, 31; night time - 94). During the 2024 IIHF WM, these services will be reinforced.

Buses can reach Českomoravská station, which will be relocated to K Moravině Street during the 2024 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship (daytime - 151, 152; night time - 375) or Nádraží Libeň station (daytime - 136, 177, 182, 183, 195; night time - 913).

For those traveling from nearby towns, train services operated by the Czech Railways are also available. The nearest railway stations are Praha - Libeň (from Hlavní nádraží, Masarykovo nádraží, Smíchov, Hostivař, and Holešovice stations) or Praha - Vysočany (from Hlavní nádraží and Masarykovo nádraží stations).

These measures apply to all operational days from the start of daytime service on Friday 10 May, until the end of the night time service on Sunday 26 May (Sunday to Monday night), regardless of whether it is a game day or a tournament rest day.

Head too the arena and Official Fan Zone without carrying unnecessary items

Entry to the arena will be allowed to spectators one hour before the opening faceoff, while the fan zone will be accessible from 14:00 until the end of the evening games. On days when three games are played, it will open at 11:00. Standard security checks will be conducted before entry to the Prague Arena and the Official Fan Zone. “To ensure smooth operations, we recommend leaving excessive and unnecessary items in the storage facilities around the arena. The list of prohibited items can be found on each ticket,” says Head of Security Department, Miloš Benda. Two storage facilities will be located before the entrance to the Universum, another at the usual location in front of the northern entrance as during other events, and the last one in close proximity to the metro. Bags of a size bigger than 30 x 20 x 10 cm will need to be stored at the deposit.

Visitors can find comprehensive information on the official event website. Information for Ostrava will be announced by the organizers on Wednesday 24 April 2024.
